<>You are welcome to the First Technical University, Ibadan, where we develop brains and train hands. Primarily, we are revolutionalising technical education in Nigeria and beyond. Established by the Oyo State Government in 2017, Tech-U (as our university is also called) is committed to producing total graduates: those with academic competence, certified and practicalised vocational skills, entrepreneurial education and experience, as well as communication training that enhances their versatility.

We are a young university but our ideals are timeless, our structure is strong while our achievements have so far been instructive. Some of the values that have contributed to these are the efficient digitised system we operate, our unique vocational and entrepreneurial model, strategic link with industries, all running through an uninterrupted calendar.

So deliberate are we about the richness of our curriculum that, at the end of their programmes, each graduate gets three certificates: the BSc., a Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Diploma in Communication. The vision is predicated on the need to produce graduates who fit well into corporate establishments while they are also market-ready, especially in a country like ours where unemployment is daily deepening. We are convinced that any form of tertiary education that does not envisage and provide socio-economic options for students is invalid. So, through the deployment of the principles of Science, Engineering, Technology, Research and Innovation (SETRI) for societal transformation, the university is steadfast in combating youth unemployment in Nigeria. We do this by producing outstanding graduates who are self-reliant and innovative.

The ranking is based on a meticulous analysis of bibliometric data from Scopus, the leading database for peer-reviewed literature. Metrics considered include the number of citations, author positions (single, first, last author), and co-authorship, alongside standardized data on h-index and i10 index. Dr. Adegoke’s inclusion in the Top 2% is a testament to his impactful research in the field of Environmental Sciences.

The university currently has a total of 30 accredited programmes in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and Faculty of Environmental Sciences. These include Agricultural Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering. In the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences are courses like Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Sciences, Cyber Security, Forensic Science, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics with Electronics, Science Laboratory Technology, Software Engineering and Statistics. In the Environmental Sciences and Management we have Public Health, Architecture, Building Technology, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Urban and Regional Planning, Survey and Geoinformatics, among others.

Sited in Ibadan, West Africa’s largest city reputed for its many firsts, the Tech-U campus spreads on an expanse of 200 hectares of well-endowed land mass. The campus is inserted in the fledgling Free Trade Zone Area of the city, projected to house a consortium of industries. The learning environment is inspiring in terms of physical and Internet infrastructure. The citadel boasts well-motivated, experienced and committed teaching and non-teaching staff who, via global best practices, assiduously work to guarantee students all support needed to bring out the best in them. Once again, welcome to the world of the First Technical University, Ibadan.
