Department of Mathematics and Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics was established in 2017 as one of the foundation Department to contribute to The Technical University’s mission to produce self-reliant graduates imbued with requisite skills, competences and ability to be key players in the nation’s quest for socio-economic technological development. It is a community of scholars committed to excellence in research and instruction.

In addition to being the basis of many disciplines, Mathematics and Statistics are subjects that are constantly evolving and creating exciting new theories, challenging problems and applications. New methods and models are used in many different areas including:

  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • Medicine
  • Social and natural sciences

Mathematics is the study of numbers, sets of points and various other abstract elements and deals with the size, order, shape and various relationships among these features. Statistics is a branch of Mathematics that includes the study of methods for data collection, analysis, interpretation and principles of experimental design. Mathematics contributes to the formulation and solution of problems in diverse fields such as Medicine, Economics and the Social Sciences in addition to being the foundation of the field of Computer Science and the “language” of Science and Engineering.
