History of the Department
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics was actually a foundational Department that started with the establishment of the First Technical University Ibadan. The Department came into existence in the year 2017 and in January 2018 the first sets of classes were taken by the then pioneer Dean of Student Affairs; Professor S. Ajadi (from Obafemi Awolowo University Mathematics Department) and then Dr K.O.Obisesan (from University of Ibadan Statistics Department). The activities of the Department were coordinated by Prof. Ajadi. The Department started to run two programmes B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Statistics in the year 2018 and in the year 2020, the university management renamed the Department as a new Department of Mathematics and Computational Sciences with Professor J. O. Okesola as the Head of Department running B.Sc prgrammes in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Statistics and Mathematics. On Tuesday 4th January, 2022 Department of Mathematics and Statistics was carved out again and it was headed by Prof O. Adebimpe. Prof. Obisesan resumed duty as the Head of Department of Mathematics and Statistics on August 1, 2023
Vision
To produce graduates of transferable applicable skills in Mathematical and Computational Sciences with entrepreneurial spirits needed for self-employment and economic emancipation.
Mission
To create an umbrella that encompasses a number of technical fields whose graduates are self-employable as well as easily employable in reputable industries including data analytics, Office of Statistics, software engineering, computer engineering, information security, and network administration.
