VACANCY

The post of the Vice-Chancellor of the First Technical University (TechU), Ibadan, will become vacant on 9th May, 2022 when the tenure of the incumbent and pioneer Vice Chancellor ends. In accordance with the provisions of the First Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State (Amendment) Law, 2018, the Governing Council of the University has commenced the process of filling the vacancy and hereby invitesapplications from suitably qualified candidates for the post.

THE UNIVERSITY

The First Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, was established by the Oyo State Government as Nigeria’s Premier Technical University and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as the 38th State University and 125th university in the Nigerian University System in December, 2012. It sits on a 200-hectare expanse of land along
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Free Trade Zone Area in which about 175 local and foreign manufacturing companies will establish presence and carry out their operations. In the four years of commencement of academic activities, the University has mounted 31 academic programmes in four faculties: Basic Medical and Health Sciences,Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences and Management, Natural and Applied Sciences, to train students that are theoretically sound and excellent in hands-on experience,entrepreneurial skills and orientation to provide technology-driven solutions to problems in the society and thereby generate employment. Through this, the University is bridging the youthemployability gap by producing graduates that are trained to create tomorrow today through their capacity to innovate. The University
thus strives to cultivate a cadre of technical professionals with requisite entrepreneurial skills and capability for creating jobs and employment.Though wholly owned by the Oyo State Government, Tech-U stands as Nigeria’s first self-sustaining public university, on the strength of the unique public-private-partnership (PPP) model it runs.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE APPLICABLE TO THE POST

The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years and upon such terms as shall, subject to the Law and the Statutes of the University, be determined by the Governing Council. The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice Chancellor in Nigerian public universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Council of the First Technical University as appropriate.

  • To engage in research, consultancy and development activities in all technical and managerial aspects of the industrial sector;

  • To take the leadership role in promoting the economic
    development of Oyo State and the society at large through
    specific education, training and outreach activities.

CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor, First Technical University, Ibadan should possess a good university education with track records of management of human and material resources. The candidate is also expected to:

be a distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor, with a minimum of seven (7) years experience on that level and demonstrable ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for a Technical University;

be a person of impeccable character and integrity;

be not more than sixty-five (65) years old as at the date of possible assumption of duty on 9th May, 2022;

have a track record that is nationally and internationally acknowledged by the academic communities through collaborations, grantsmanship and peer-reviewed scientific publications;

promote and manage healthy interactions among sta, students, alumni and other stakeholders in the University;

enjoy excellent physical and mental health;

have a clear vision for the development of the University; and

be able to attract resources for the much-needed accelerated development of the University.

Candidates applying for the position are advised to request their referees to forward confidential reports on them directly to the Registrar and Secretary to Council within six (6) weeks from the date of advertisement. The envelopes containing the reports should be duly marked “CONFIDENTIAL – Application for the Post of Vice-Chancellor” at the top left-hand corner.
